Backlog

The backlog is the ranked list of everything left to do. Rank it, plan tasks into To Do, and the board takes it from there.

The ordered backlog

The Backlog tab lists the tasks of the project in the order in which you want to work on them. In a tree project these are the nodes at the ends of the branches. It has two sections:

Each row shows a drag handle, the task name, its color group (a tinted row with a label), its status and its story points. Finished tasks leave the list. Use Search tasks to filter the list by name.

Ranking tasks

The order of the list is the order of your priorities: the task at the top is the next one to do.

With the mouse or touch

  1. Press the drag handle (the six dots) at the left of a task and drag it up or down.
  2. Release it at its new place. The order is saved.

With the keyboard

  1. Move the focus to the drag handle of a task, named Reorder followed by the task name.
  2. Press Space to pick the task up.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to move it. The screen reader announces where it is.
  4. Press Space to drop it, or Escape to cancel and put it back.

To plan a task, drag it from Backlog into To Do; it is then ready for the board. Drag it back to take it off the plan again. If saving the new order fails, the list returns to the last saved order and tells you so.

Adding tasks

In a backlog-only project you add tasks right here:

  1. Click the field Add a task and press Enter at the bottom of the page.
  2. Type the title and press Enter.
  3. The task appears at the end of the Backlog section. Rank it as described above.

In a tree project the backlog has no such field: tasks come from the tree, by quick-adding or splitting nodes. A backlog without tasks says Split the vision to start building your backlog.
